Founder and Program Director
After working in the medical field for many years, Sandy decided to focus on her passion for working with people that have special needs. Sandy's own son, who has Down Syndrome, was her inspiration for creating Academy of Dreams. She now focuses solely on developing and running the program. When she does have free time, Sandy enjoys watching movies, reading books, playing sports and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Marla started off as a Caregiver for 8 years. Growing up, she has always had a passion to provide compassionate care for others. She strives to be a part of a community of people so special and so great. She feels she has reached a goal in her life being a part of a very unique program as great as Academy of Dreams. She loves her role and dreams of using her skills, gifts, and talents to support this program and make a real difference in her community. She loves to work, and when she is not working she loves to take dance classes for fun! She's elated to be among a great team of people! She has been with the academy since 2019.
Mr. Jeff is a man of many hats, he starts his day with taking student to the gym for weigh-in and for a work out program. In the afternoon he takes the students to their job sites and works on their goals for job training. He has been with us since the school has opened. He uses his artistic skills in our themed projects (ask him about our dog sleds).
We love Mr. Jeff on our team
Ms. Colleen started Academy of Dreams last year, and really enjoyed working with the students. She has become the leader in our “Dreamy Coffee” small business, and is looking forward to expanding it. In her spare time, she enjoys being with the family, cooking and her favorite, decorating. The Academy is excited to have her on board.
Lexi is a Fraser Senior High School graduate of 2020. She started off as a volunteer before becoming a staff member. She is happy seeing the academy grow over the years. She does wonderful work with the students and they motivate her! She is a very passionate individual! She dances at the same dance studio as the students of Academy of Dreams! Her plans are to go to college to become a future Special Education teacher. She has been with us since 2016.
Grace started off as a volunteer and soon realized she loved working with the students of Academy of Dreams! She is excited to become a staff member! She did similar work at her high school working in the Special Needs program. Thanks to Mrs. Sandy and other influences from her high school she would like to pursue a career in Special Education! Over time she has created a good bond and friendship with the students. We are happy to have her a part of our team! Grace is a Lake Shore High School Senior graduate of 2020, and has been with us since 2019.
